Successful Play

A successful play meets one or more of these conditions:

• Earns a first down;
• Scores a touchdown;
• For 1st and 2nd down plays, gains at least 4 yards;

and a successful play cannot result in a turnover, punt, or loss.

Comparison Numbers

The numbers next to play and drive statistics compare your filtered query with NFL average for 2013 (through Week 12). The difference shown is in percentage points -- it is not the percent difference between the two numbers.

Other Notes

• Incomplete passes count as pass plays that gain zero yards
• Sacks count as pass plays for negative yards
• Play selection percentages only include plays that have deemed a run or pass play (i.e. special teams plays are not included)
• For drive statistics, each drive is assigned only one result. If more than one category applies (e.g. a touchdown and a win), the scoring event takes precedence.

This database is derived from the AdvancedNFLStats.com play-by-play dataset, which contains play data through the 2012 regular season. All subsequent processing is automated and has not been verified for accuracy. I make no guarantee that these stats are accurate -- use at your own risk!
